The first week of May was a thrilling one for the people of Vintage Dream Factory, a Belgian non-profit organization established with the aim to preserve and fly the North American Mustang P-51 “SCAT VII”.

Scat VII is the sole airworthy P-51 based in Belgium and is a rare combat survivor. It served with the 434th Fighter Squadron, 479th Fighter Group where she was the personal aircraft of Major Robin Olds in World War II. Robin Olds would go on to become a triple ace and scored his 5 last kills of the War whilst flying Scat VII.

During the Vietnam War, Robin, a Colonel by then, would go on to make fame whilst flying the F-4 Phantom with the 8th TFW when he came up with Operation Bolo and destroyed 4 MiGs.

Vintage Dream Factory had the pleasure of welcoming both the daughter and granddaughter of Robin Olds, Christina Olds and Jennifer Newman, to spend some time with them and the aircraft Robin flew in over 70 years ago.

For Christina it was also a long awaited reunion with the very same aircraft her dad flew in over our occupied skies in World War II.

On Wednesday, May 4th, pilot Lieven Lavaert paid a visit to the Belgian Air Force base Kleine Brogel with Christina in the backseat. For Christina it was a very emotional flight aboard her late father's Mustang, especially flying it over the same skies he had fought in during WWII.

Once on the ground, Christina would give a lecture about the life of her father.

The event was given great coverage by both the Belgian written press and national TV channels.

On Saturday, May 7th, Vintage Dream Factory organized a unique and fabulous event at Kortrijk Wevelgem airport where Christina met with a select group of aviation enthusiasts and moved everyone with the stories of her father's life and to share the memories of a great leader, pilot and above all a wonderful man!

Off course Scat VII was also present and people had the opportunity to get up close and personal with the Mustang, talk to Christina and have their personal copy of the Robin Olds biography signed by Christina.

Did you know that you too can be a hero for a day? Become a member and fly Scat VII from the backseat! For more information please visit www.vintage.flights
